City Begins Search for Suitable Snow-Dumping Site

    On Thursday the Kodiak City Council took a step toward finding a different method of disposing snow. Previously, snow collected from city streets and parking lots was dumped into the channel, but City Manager Aimee Kniazowski said a complaint from a local resident made to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation forced the city to seek out other disposal methods.
    During Thursday’s meeting the council was asked to vote on acceptance of a contract between the city and DOWL HKM to design and search for a new location to dump snow.
    Kniazowski said there are definitely drawbacks in having to search for a new site for the snow.
    The council unanimously approved the contract with DOWL HKM. In other business, the council also voted in favor of an amendment to a contract for geotechnical work associated with Pier III and adopted both the state and federal capital improvement program lists.
