About KMXT News

KMXT News produces and airs three newscasts daily, at 7:20 a.m., 12 noon and 5 p.m., featuring  local and statewide news. On Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. we produce and air Talk of the Rock, a weekly talk and public affairs program.

KMXT News also produces the award-winning Alaska Fisheries Report the valuable assistance of journalists from around the state who report on the fisheries in their area. For over 25 years the AFR has brought news and features of relevance about Alaska commercial fisheries to listeners statewide. In 2011 the AFR was named “Best Radio Program” in the state by the Alaska Broadcasters Association, and it has won numerous Alaska Press Club awards, including “Best Public Affairs” program.

 

The KMXT Eyewitness Action News Team is led by News Director Jay Jay Shades UpBarrett, a 20+ year veteran of weekly and daily Alaska newspapers,  public radio and TV. He is an award-winning writer, editor and photographer. He was born and raised in Dillingham, Alaska, where he started in radio at the age of 12.
